COMMON QUESTIONS

One of our driving principles at SWFT is accessibility, especially when it comes to cost. While most mainstream e-bikes cost between $1,500 and $4,000, our e-bike models begin at just $999 and our e-moped is competitively priced at $1,999. We’ve even partnered with Klarna to offer a monthly payment plan that lets you pay in installments over time.
While the power to pedal on your own is unlimited with our e-bikes, they each feature powerful motors and rechargeable batteries to take you far on just a single charge. The pedal-assist operating mode activates the motor as you pedal and works with the throttle functions to give your ride an electric-powered boost so movement feels super smooth and near effortless.
While the speed at which you pedal is up to you, our throttle and pedal assist features top out at 19.8 mph, the perfect pace to streamline your commutes and accelerate your adventures without requiring a license in most states.

E-bikes have many components and each year’s technology brings new features and advances to keep track of. We want to simplify the search process so you can shop with confidence. Read on to learn about important features to consider when purchasing an e-bike:

  • TIRES

  • Where do you ride? The VOLT’s road tires are aerodynamic for fast everyday commuting while the FLEET’s beach cruiser tires offer more cushion and traction for a more comfortable, laid back ride. The ZIP features even thicker tires with substantial tread for riding on or off the road.
  • MAX SPEEDS

  • Max speed is an important factor to consider depending on your needs, comfort level, and state regulations. Our throttle and pedal assist features power your ride up to 19.8 mph.
  • GEARS

  • Also referred to as speeds (i.e. 3-speed bicycle), gears allow you to change the ease with which you pedal depending on the incline or terrain. For example a steep incline may require easier pedaling and thus a lower gear, while pedaling downhill may require a more resistant pedal and thus a higher gear so that your pedaling actually helps propel you forward and in addition to gravity.  You might opt for a bike with several gears versus a single-speed bike, depending on your needs, but bear in mind that additional gears add weight to your bicycle. Because our bikes are electric, we’ve included features like a throttle and pedal assist to minimize the effort required to ride, in lieu of multiple gears. Our ZIP bike however does include 6 gears for a variety of inclines and terrains.
  • BATTERY LIFE

  • Batteries are important to consider for the longevity of your bicycle. Our e-bike batteries have a 600-cycle lifespan and have been tested to meet UL2271 standards to optimize performance.
  • MAX RANGE

  • This refers to the maximum distance your e-bike will travel while employing the throttle at medium capacity on a fully charged battery before charging is required. Check below for each bike’s max range* on a single charge.
    • VOLT E-bike: 32 mile max range
    • FLEET E-bike: 37.2 mile max range
    • ZIP E-bike: 37 mile max range
  • * Varies slightly depending on rider weight.
  • THROTTLE

  • Some e-bikes are equipped with a throttle, a mechanism that powers the motor with a twist on the handlebar. In addition to pedal assist, all SWFT e-bikes feature a throttle which you can use in tandem with the pedal-assist, or on its own without pedaling.
  • PEDAL ASSIST

  • Most e-bikes are equipped with pedal assist, an operating mode that activates the motor when you pedal to give your ride an electric-powered boost. Some e-bikes forgo pedal assist in favor of a throttle. All SWFT e-bikes feature both a throttle and pedal assist so you can choose how to power your ride, or activate both simultaneously for extra motor power.

  • WEIGHT

  • Bike weight is a factor to consider depending on how you will store and transport your e-bike. Electric bikes tend to be heavier than traditional bikes due to the added motor, battery and other features. We’ve developed our SWFT e-bikes to optimize performance and minimize weight, with each model falling below the average weight of its respective category.
    • VOLT: 44.1 lbs
    • FLEET: 50.7 lbs
    • ZIP: 66.1 lbs
  • CLASS

  • E-bikes are typically designated as Class 1, 2, or 3, according to available features and maximum speed. SWFT e-bikes fall under the Class 2 category meaning they feature both pedal assist and throttle with a maximum assisted speed of 19.8 mph.
  • SEAT

  • Seat type is important to consider depending on what type of ride you are looking for. The VOLT features an aerodynamic seat for a faster, more athletic ride while the FLEET is equipped with a wider, more cushioned seat for a laid back and comfortable ride. Our VOLT model features an elongated motorcycle style seat for stability, comfort, and extra room.

While each of our e-bikes includes throttle and pedal assist functions and is well-suited for a work commute, the best fit for you depends on your needs and the type of ride you are looking for.

  • MAXX: Our MAXX e-moped offers a smooth and comfortable ride whether you’re maneuvering through downtown traffic or cruising country roads with ample safety features like turn signals, high beam and dipped headlights, rearview mirrors, a horn and built-in alarm. The MAXX offers a compact ride relative to standard electric mopeds. The step-through style works for a wider range of rider heights beginning at 5’2”, and the sizable seat allows for an extra passenger and a storage compartment.

  • VOLT: For those in search of a faster, more aerodynamic bike ride, the lightweight VOLT makes it easier than ever to traverse town, the ‘burbs, or wherever you call home. It has a lighter frame and thinner faster wheels designed for paved roads. While riders always have the option to forgo motor power on any of our bike models, the VOLT is ideal for the bike enthusiast with intentions of mixed-use riding (both motor-powered and traditional) because of the lightweight and athletic frame. However, it also works for anyone in search of a traditional road bike with added motor power.

  • FLEET: The FLEET works well for a more laid back and comfortable commute and is suited for a variety of terrains. It features thicker wider tires and a plush saddle with a more upright riding position for added comfort and increased shock absorption. The FLEET is best suited for riders 5’7” and up.

  • ZIP: The ZIP is distinguished by an elongated motorcycle style seat, high-tread fat tires, and extra shock absorption, working well for everything from extra comfortable road commutes to off-road adventures. The ZIP also features 6-speeds for extra versatility on every incline and is best for riders 5’5” and up.

Each of our e-bikes works for a range of rider heights and the FLEET and ZIP e-bikes feature adjustable seat posts. See below to determine which e-bike is best for you.

  • FLEET—best for riders between 5’7” - 6’2”. See more height and fit details for the FLEET here
  • ZIP—best for riders 5’5” and up. See more height and fit details for the ZIP here
  • VOLT— best for riders 5’9” and up. See more height and fit details for the VOLT here.

The weight limit of each SWFT e-bike model is as follows:

  • VOLT: 220 lbs
  • FLEET: 265 lbs
  • ZIP: 265 lbs

The lifespan of your SWFT battery is measured according to charge cycles, which vary from product to product. The charge cycles indicate how many times the battery can undergo a full charge followed by 80% depletion until it starts to lose capacity. SWFT product battery charge cycles are indicated below:

  • VOLT - 600 cycles
  • FLEET - 800 cycles
  • ZIP - 600 cycles
  • MAXX - 500 cycles

A quick tip: Your SWFT e-bike will come partially pre-charged. This is due to transport regulations and safety. Before your first ride, we recommend giving your e-bike battery a full and complete charge. Make sure your battery indicator light on your charger reads green before you disconnect your charger and take your first ride.

To help prolong your battery life, we recommend you charge your battery when the battery level on your display reads at around 25%. We do not recommend letting your battery drain to 0% too often to avoid causing battery strain. Another great way to help extend the battery's lifespan is to avoid over-charging the battery. Make sure to charge your e-bike according to our recommended charge times, and disconnect when the charging indicator turns green to show you that your e-bike battery is fully charged.

SWFT bikes are gender neutral and suited for a variety of riders, but it is necessary to consider the height requirements of each model and the type of ride you prefer.

For those familiar with bike share programs in major US cities such as Citi Bike in New York City, or Metro Bike Share in Los Angeles, the style of e-bikes used in these programs is most similar to our FLEET model, sharing features like an upright comfort position, a plush saddle, and cruiser tires. Each of our SWFT bike models, however, feature the added benefits of a throttle function to forgo pedaling, 3 levels of pedal assist with a cadence sensor that determines which level to activate, and a higher assisted speed of 19.8 mph. Additionally, SWFT bikes feature an LCD control display to track your stats including battery level so you’re never surprised with an uncharged battery.

OPERATION

Pedal assist is an operating mode that activates the motor when you pedal to give your ride an electric-powered boost. All SWFT e-bikes feature 3 levels of pedal assist in addition to throttle function to power your ride.

Not usually. While the majority of states across the country regulate e-bikes similarly to traditional bicycles and do not require a license, some holdouts still place e-bikes into the motor vehicle category. Check your state’s local e-bike regulations to determine which license, if any, is required to operate a Class 2 e-bike.

Most states require a valid driver's license to operate an e-moped. Because regulations for e-mopeds vary from state to state, we recommend checking with your local DMV.

For the most part, cyclists are not required to insure their e-bikes in the United States. Regarding mopeds however, most states classify mopeds as a motor vehicle and do require insurance. It is important to check your state’s local regulations to ensure that you comply with the law. Regardless of where you are located, we recommend insuring your e-bike and e-moped for your protection and peace of mind.

Proper care will optimize the life and performance of your battery. Please refer to the ‘Battery Care & Maintenance’ portion of your user manual or online under your bike’s Assembly Guide section, linked below.

No, the keys only lock the battery into place and also unlock the battery for detachment. To protect your e-bike from theft, we recommend purchasing a U-lock or a sturdy chain bike lock.
